Some still use it and some don't. Most who boost more than about 5 pounds remove it since it is going to hinder the boost. However, since I'm not boosted I have no idea if you use the rear bank or the front when you lock the VRIS down on way or the other.

So you take the butterflies out, which bank do you use to run the intake of air through? I can't imagine using both banks...

why not ? that's what it does when both butterflyes are open anyways
and the turbo will compensate for the little loss in the lower rpm range

Got this from a a site boosting a probe GT: So i gueess i tie them both open.
Intake Setup—VAF Placement/VRIS Plates Boost Start Full Boost
VAF before turbo, VRIS plates operating normally. 3800 RPM 4200 RPM
VAF before turbo, VRIS #1 tied open 3500 RPM 4000 RPM
VAF after turbo, no filter on inlet, VRIS plates normal 3000 RPM 3500 RPM
VAF after turbo, no filter on inlet, both VRIS plates open 2500 RPM 3000 RPM
