Transmission and Swap Questions

Hey Guys, I just recently purchased my 92 1.6 5spd MX3. I'm having a few issues though... I had a front left wheel bearing done about 4 weeks ago and ever since there is a crazy howling/droning coming from the front end as well as a little bit of a grind that I can feel when I come to a stop. The shop that changed the bearing for me assured me that it was not causing my droning. I took it in to Mazda, had them confirm its the bearing and promptly went back to the shop to have it changed again.

Well, bearing changed, droning still there. They are blaming it on the output shaft bearing in my transmission. My question is, why did the droning only start after the bearing was changed? Could they have damaged the transmission bearing while changing the wheel bearing?

My other question is, now that I am looking into a transmission rebuild or swap.....which transmission would be the best to choose seeing as I will be doing the BP swap by the end of the summer. Should I just wait, and swap motor/tranny at the same time? If I pull a BP from a 90-94 Protoge, will the transmission from it fit? Do I need the axles from it as well?

Thanks for any suggestions

the search function will help you out alot. but yes you need quite a bit from the protege lx from what i understand. but if your going to put a BP in there, you should get a ptoege lx/escort gt/tracer lts tranny. G series.

Thanks for the info. I'm sure I can find an Escort GT fairly easily around here.
