Loud bubbling coming from fuel tank when engine off???

Hi,
Today after I drove home from work I parked the car and turned the engine off - I could hear a sort of bubbling/gargling noise form behind me. I discovered the noise was coming from the petrol tank and was not going away. So I opened the fuel cap and about 2-3 times the usual pressure was released. After that the noise was going.
Is this something I need to worry about? Why was this happening? Do I need a new fuel pump?
Paul

Bad /cloggedfuel cap? not letting pressure escape?
CAn your replace the fule cap and see if it still does that?
here in Tx when we do the yearly car inspection, the fuel cap is also tested.

mine does the same thing and has been for about 2 years and i found out that opening the fuel filler cap thing stopped the gargling sound that happens after a long drive.. it makes a sort of PSHH sound so it could very well be that the fuel cap is not letting pressure escape...
well.. is it bad that the cap doesnt let pressure escape?? should i get a new cap??

The cap is not supposed to let pressure escape. There is a emmision subsystem though that is supposed to do away with these vapours though.
They are supposed to be exsoubred by a charcoal canister and eventually fed into the intake stream.

ok talked with my mechanic.
he says yes ur right. the fuel cap should not let pressure escape, should hold it. and yes the parts your mentioned are supposed to take care of that pressure.
So? something further down is bad?

You know, i've been listening for the last while and i don't hear the bubling sound anymore
My guess is that your filler tubes may need to be replaced, cause mine hasn't done it since mine was replaced
