Are those glass lenses fluted or clear?

Just like the original's one ("fluted")...but in glass

If you guys have some patience, I'm trying to do clear lenses for the headlights (acrylic or glass...I don't know yet)..but it's a project for July only..as I'm an Architect, it's "easy" to get some local artisan to do it... I'm realy busy right now to take care of it...but it'll be done (and probably a custom fiberglass to fit some nice projectors )

i did the same thing myself by getting a local glass blower to do them for me. the only problem was the edges were too smooth and couldn't fit flush with the headlight pod, so there were gaps. it could be done though.

Before anyone gets their hopes too high about glass lenses. The glass lenses Cris is talking about here are E-code version though and will not be compatible to our northamerican pattern headlights.

JDM do you mean not compatible as in a 9004 headlight will not work with them and you need a H4 or do you mean that the lense wont fit correctly on the backing

IN North America we have what is a DOT beam pattern headlights. Newer ones have a "Harmonized beam" In Europe and most of the world they have headlights that fall under ECE regualtions, They are called E-code. In Japan, Australia, NZ, and UK they drive on a different side of the road, but the beam pattern is very similar to E-code, just reversed.

DOT uses 9004 bulbs, E-code/J-spec use H4 bulbs. DOT beam pattern is very different from E-code/J-spec ones. DOT allows for a lot of light beed off above the cut-off, E-codes have a very sharp cut-off with a flare to the right (J-spec to the left)to light up road signs and the sidewalk. The light spread is very even and quite wide. DOT has a distinctive high intensity spot in the centre of the beam and the light spread is not even. Sides do not light up very well.

Mx-3 DOT headlights are have different pattern on the clear lens than E-code or J-spec version of the same. That pattern is responsible for defining certain major proprties of the beam, such as spread, bleed off, cut off and flare.

It would be nice to just swap the front lenses and that changes your beam pattern, but it is not the only difference between the headlights.

The housing and internal reflectors are different as well. In the DOT version the housing is the reflector itself. Its chromed on the inside and the whole housing moves to adjust the alighnment. In E-code/J-spec versions of our headlights the housing is fixed to the body of the car. There is a separate internal reflector inside that moves to adjust the alignment.

So besides the lenses you need the rest of the housing. If you just want to have a glass lens, because you do not need to polish it all the time, it should fit out housing, but your beam will be out of wack, probably even worse than just DOT.

It does look, from the website, like they sell both lenses and something else - I just can't figure out what "Iodo" means. When I run it through Babel Fish, it comes up as "Iodine".

Could they be complete lights? Any help from a Portuguese-speaking car enthusiast would be great!

I'm going to try e-mailing the company in English, and hope they can figure out what I am asking...
