Post by ModMX3 - (Carmaster2005) »

Just wandering how easy schould a turbo spin ? not BB. Schould it keep spinning if you turn it or schould it have a little resistance ? like it spins easly but dose not keep spinning when you let go. i know once it get oil circulating throgh it expecally when hot it will spin easly. and input would help. thanks!

That sounds ok. The main thing is shaft play.

Hmm, most/all the turbos I have checked spin quite freely with or without oil. Like Grant says the shaft play is the best barometer.
Almost sounds like the center bearing is sticking....

Well when I spin the turbine it will make about two maybe 3 extra spins on its own, the shaft is very solid left, right , up,down very little if any shaft play. im pretty sure its ok but just wanted to check to make sure.

well also remember ur turbo isnt ball bearing that can make a pretty good difference. spinning 2 or 3 times on its own on a non BB turbo sounds good to me.

Ive found most turbos dont want to spin very easy, especially garretts. My holset will literally spin for 2-3 seconds with a simple turn. it's crazy, never seen anything like it.

Side to side shaft play is no big deal (to an extent), it's end to end shaft play that is a problem.
