Upgrading suspension and brakes....suggestions

Post by seneca »

Hey everyone,
ALright I have finally decided to upgrade everything underneath my ride. I know for sure I need new rotors, and very possibly struts. WHile I'm at it I figure it would be worth it to drop it an inch or so (please check out my cardomain page and lemme know how low you think I should go).
So I'm thinking:
-rotors(cross-drilled)
-brake pads
-struts
-coilovers OR springs (suggestions)

I have a slight clunk coming from the rear when I go over large bumps...and can feel every single crack, bump, rock, grain of sand from the front. I'm assuming this would be a good time to replace the struts???

I found these as a possibility for my new rotors: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7909581659&category=33564

I was wondering if anyone would trust these? I mean, they're your brakes! It's not something that you don't really want to have to worry about!

Please email (with an mx3 subject line) leave a message on cardomain or IM me on here with suggestions. I really need to fix these problems soon!!!
THx in Advance!

All i got to say is...Do NOT buy those cheap eBay rotors, they are cheap for a reason bud. They WILL warp within a year.

I know you probably won't listen to my advise and still go buy them, but im' telling you now...get a good quality rotor. Belive me, iv'e been burned 2 times now lol.

I went with:

*Brembo x-drilled rotors (no slots, worried about too-fast pad wear)
*H&R Sport Springs w/Tokico HP (Blues) Struts (Install underway currently)

I've heard some complaints that the Tokico Blues may not hold up over the long run- will have to see. I'm generally not a hard driver and each of my wheel/tire combos only weighs 30.5 lbs. per corner so hopefully the Tokico's won't be over-worked.

LoL...thx for the vote of confidence! haha Luckily I believe in quality before value. If you have to pay a few more $$$ for better quality then that's what you gotta do. I just came across them and wondered if they have been tested. I figure I'll be doing business thru street-import.com again. I've dealt w/ them before an recieved EXCELLENT service! :2thumbsup:
You see, in a lot of cases one manufacturer will produce a certian # of product and sell it to various companies who throw their name on it (commonly found in cd-rw). But in this case, especially w/ brakes, I think a brand name MAY come in handy! lol

Pat, we should talk. I'll send you a pm. Think you can cut a good deal? And I'll pick everything u[ thru the business.

drilled rotors tend to crack around the holes. Especially cheap ones, but it also depends on what brakepads you get. I would get brembo plain or vented. sure the drilled ones look better, but I would not want them to warp or crack. And remember, its the quality of the pads that really matter, high performance pads can make ALL the difference in the world

I've had ceramic pads for about 3 months now and love them. They were installed with KVR slotted rotors so I'm not sure exaclty how much difference they themselves made, but a great differnece over stock with SS brake lines.
