Terrible short somewhere? Stereo consuming too much joice?

Thanks for all the help guys. I finally identified it. THe markings under the distributor are B551-1. Apparently its a 1.5. Useless to me. The JDM importer I bought it from won't take it back but will swing me a deal on a real BP. Looking to sell the 1.5 if anybody is interested. Let me know ...

Ok, found something else interesting. In the first link, look at the closeup picture of the valve cover gasket, distributor side, the 2 end bolts are different, one points outwards, this is the wrong one for my engine.

So there's no chance this is a BP then? Was the valve cover on the B5 the same? Is there any chance I can use this motor anyway? That's alot of wasted money....

The only valve cover I have to compare with is the Escort GT one, slightly different shape but relatively the same. The gasket issue is what has me really confused. All the pictures I find for the 1.6 or 1.8 DOHC all have the same shape for the corner bolt. The gasket I need has the same shape for ...

Thanks for the replies, still a little confused though. The 5 spd protege transmission bolts right up to this motor. Also, the valve cover looks exactly like a 1.8 cover, did the 1.6 dohc miata look the same?

I already removed the AC compressor. My car doesn't have it. How hard would it be to convert?

I have a 92 MX3 and am getting close to starting the swap. Motor's already out of the MX3, bay painted etc... I'm hoping you guys can fill in the gaps with parts I'm missing?

- 93 LX BP Motor
- G-Series Transmission
