 GS Transmission removal
Well I will be rebuilding my parts car tranny this weekend and then I hope to swap it into the Purple Beast before x/mas with new clutch.
I was hoping one of you long time GS guys who've done like a million trannies will offer me some advice on the fastest, easiest way to get the tranny out. I think it would be easiest to do without pulling the engine, but I may be wrong. Every car's different and I've never done this job on a GS.
Any tips or helpful hints would be appreciated.

 Re: GS Transmission removal
I only did this once... but basically I jacked up the motor, and used a separate jack under the tranny... unbolted the motor mounts, took out the crossmember and unbolted the tranny from the motor... maybe somebody with more experience can chime in

 Re: GS Transmission removal
You can do it with the motor in.
- Drain the tranny fluid and take off the drivers side wheel and loosen the CV axle bolt (will proly need a large breaker bar or a air gun), loosen the ball joint and move the strut assembly to the side with some rope or something. Unbolt crossmember
- Yank out the Drivers side CV axle, make sure you put a oil bucket under it, you may loose some oil. You can leave the passenger side in and the INT shaft as when you pull the tranny off, it will slide off the INT shaft. Plug the drivers side CV hole with a rag or some paper towel. This gives you more room to work!
- Basically get everything out of the way that is ontop/below/around the tranny. Battery, fuel filter, connectors, the two 12mm bolts holding the slave and the metal tab that holds the line to the tranny (pull the slave to the side) etc.
- Disconnect transmission mount from the tranny - 17mm
- Carefully loosen the bell housing from the block by undoing all the bolts (dont forget the inspection plate) WHILE there is a jack of some sort under the tranny to hold it up.
- Yank the tranny out and downwards and it should come right off!

 Re: GS Transmission removal
That's pretty much exactly what i was lookin for. I figure it's an easy operation I was just curious if there were any specific clearance issues or anything that I need to be aware of. Sounds like It'll be easy peasy.
Thanks guys. I'll let you know how it goes.
