Post Valve Spring Tech
Earlier today i talked with the guy from Interpreptuning.com
We got on the topic of after market valve springs and i got a good explanation of why the KL31 cammed ZE heads drop valve's
The difference of the KLDE heads and the KLZE heads are
KLZE has KL31 Cams vs the KLDE's KL01 Cams

KLZE has 31mm Intake 30mm exhaust valves along with 33mm intake side HLA's and 30mm Exhaust side HLA's.
KLDE has 30mm Valves on both sides and 30mm HLA's on both sides.

KLZE has 40lb seat pressure, 140lb open pressure Valve springs
KLDE has 50lb seat pressure, 150lb open pressure.

Interprep offers a set of valve springs for ~$135 that is 65lb seat pressure, and 195lb open pressure.

KLZE With KL31 cammed heads drop valves because of inferior retainers on the intake side and because of the low seat/open pressure of the valve springs, which intern allows for valve float and broken parts.

On a side note inorder to use interpreps valve spring set you need a set of DE/K8 valve retainers (Interprep only offers a set of springs for the KLDE).
Hope this helps..

I think i'm still going to have manley performance do my valve setup again. With my last kf i had them custom fab retainers and valves, but left the stock springs in. Thats a good price on the springs though so i might order the springs from interprep and just have manley do my valves and retainers. There slightly cheaper in price for Ferrea valves, and this is having them made custom, plus i was really pleased with there customer service and quality of there work, not to mention where i didn't know every spec they were able to fill in the blank for me, which helped out a lot.

You have to figure out one thing. KLZE's come with Straight neck manifolds and kl31 cams and high comp pistons.

If you have a Curve neck motor. Then its not a KLZE, its a DE and there is no issue with dropping valves.

and why have you amde 2 posts regarding valve dropping.

First of all there is a curved neck KLZE. And second, a lot of people here have the straight neck ZE with swapped curved neck manifold.

umm yes I have a straight neck ze with a curve manifold on it.

Tell me the facts when you get a curve neck motor and tear the heads off it to discover dished 9.2:1 pistons..has happened more than once.

just because your kl engine says kl31 on the heads does not mean its a ZE..millenia DE's here in North america used kl31 heads but kept there low comp pistons nd kl01 cams.
